A veteran of NPR, HBO, and Western Onion (singing telegrams), Gunnar Madsen has revised and expanded his 10-year-old cassette, Six Songs for Children, into these 11, mostly animal tunes, on this playful CD. Musically sound and emotionally carefree, the songs range stylistically from mellow ("Selling Lemonade") to scat ("Summertime Is Here") to marchlike ("The Dinosaur Song") and lyrically from dreamy ("Flying, Flying") to visceral ("Born to Chew[We Eat Meat]"). His self assured goofiness guarantees juvenile giggles. Farmer Madsen's outrageousness peaks with his name-game lyrics to "Chicken Road." An enjoyable, lighthearted mishmash of kids' songs from a versatile performer.
